[004] Be like Naomi Osaka.

Just yesterday, 23 year old tennis star Naomi Osaka withdrew from the French Open.

This came one day after she was fined $15,000 by the Tournament for declining to attend the post-match media conference. Prior to doing so, she had eluded to having mental health difficulties & recognised the negative impact of the interviews on her mental state. Despite this, the fine was administered & she was even threatened with disqualification or suspension from all four Grand Slam Tournaments.  As explained in her statement, she has been suffering with long bouts of depression since the US Open in 2018. Furthermore, she has social anxiety that has been compounded by slew of mandatory interviews with world media.

We are inspired by her desire to put her mental health first especially in the midst of harsh words from industry bigwigs and external pressures. In the healthcare industry, ignoring our individuals needs is rife. For some, this looks like coming to work whilst unwell, forfeiting breaks, taking on verbal abuse & saying yes to far too many requests.
